I would go with a basic two point sling. Not one of the hokey ones that doubles as a shell carrier. I like the Magpul mount:

Ok, I got the pieces to mount a sling. I'll post up pics after I get it sorted out.

    AK-88 Update

I've been doing some figuring. I've owned my Maverick 88 since 2007. I bought it new for approximately $225 + tax from Wholesale sports. That price included the 18.5" defender barrel and a 28" target/hunting barrel.

During the first years of ownership, I was buying my shells in the 100rd packs from CT. I'd burn through at least one, often two of those in a session of shooting. I was shooting an average of twice a month. If you do the math, 10 trips would be 1000 rounds. So I was averaging 2000 rounds per year, give or take a bit. That's just bird shot, never mind the slugs and buck I've fed it. I've slowed down in the past few years due to work and financial issues, but I still average at least 500 - 750 rounds a year (I buy my ammo by the 250rd case now and average 2 - 3 cases a year.

Why have I been doing this figuring? I got to thinking how long I've had the gun and figured my estimate of 8000 rounds is a hair low. After much discussion with Haywire1, who is privy to the legend of this gun...ok, it was about a 2 minute chat on FB....we have decided to place the official fired round count at 10,000 rounds!!!

    - 10,000 rounds fired

    - 6500 rounds with out a cleaning

    - Mag spring and follower replaced courtesy of Mossberg, even though it didn't need it. They heard I put 5000 rounds through it and sent me them for free.

    - S&J No-Jam follower installed at around 6000 rounds, mainly for visibility when running drills and clearing the gun in camp in the dark.

    - Bead sights upgraded to fiber optic simply for visibility, not because of a flaw.

    - Stock swapped out for a Magpul SGA, purely for ergonomics. My 590A1 wears the original Maverick stock.

    - Zero mechanical failure of the gun, ever.

    - See first post in this thread for some of the abuse it's suffered

    - Only God knows how many times it's been dry fired. Probably 50 times just tonight...

This gun remains unstoppable and the action is butter smooth.

Ok folks, the official goal is now 100,000 round, free of any mechanical failures and maintenance other than a wipe down to get exterior mud and grime off (gotta keep my clothes clean-ish).

Who wants to place bets when it will actually fail?

Here's a teaser pic of what the action looks like:

That's a lot of rounds! I'm going to shoot my brand new 590 tomorrow (Saturday) for the very first time. I got some 2-3/4" 1oz. slugs that I want to try hitting some steel at 50 and 100 yards.

    Wish me luck....

Not much point in a bet - i doubt we'll be alive to see it.

I like that you shortened it with the rib. I feel short shotguns really benefit from a rib and rib sights more than long barreled ones do.

You shouldn't have a problem. My 590A1 will put 2 3/4" slugs center mass of an IPSC target all day long at 100m. Enjoy your new gun and welcome to the Mossberg addiction!!!
