    Best bang .22 semi

Am in the thinkin stage of buying a semi to pimp up a bit. I would like advice from those here who have much more experience than I do. Ruger 10/22 seems an obvious choice, but are fairly expensive. 597's look good, but have read mixed reviews. Local shop has a rock island armory 10/22 clone for $250, but I can't find much info about them.
    Thanks in advance,
    Swamp

If your intention is to stick as many accessories as possible on it, go with the Ruger or clone. Not many aftermarket add-ons for the 597.. but it doesn't need them

The largest magazine you will find for the 597 is 30 rounds

Well as mentioned the 10/22 is far and away the king of mods.

If you just want to do some stocks, i believe boyds makes some pretty cool things for the marlin. I'd take a look there. The marlin is an excellent semi auto.

Don't think it is actually, given all the .22 versions of the AR-15 knocking about. There's heaps of things you can do to a S&W M&P 15-22.

The snag being that they're restricted. Plus the S&W is subject to that bonkers 10-round mag. limit because they briefly made a pistol version.
    Steve.

Only three things are certain, death, taxes and stupid gun laws.

Well yes, probably true. I was thinking non restricted 22 tho, so i hadn't considered some of the more 'exotic' options

why would you look at anything other than a 10/22..itīs what everything else is measured against. If itīs cost maybe look at one of the copies made in the Philippines. Not sure if they are still out there.

Back in 2010 I debated which semi .22 to buy. It was down to the 10/22 vs the 597. I chose the 597 and have regretted it ever since. the 597 just isn't reliable enough.
