Question Savage model 10tr and model 10fcp-sr, interchangeable 10 rnd mag and shooting 7.62 surplus?

    Hello,

New to GOC, this is my 1st post ...

I've got a pile of old surplus 7.62x54 ammo that I'm looking to burn through, so I've been looking at the Savage model 10-TR. However I would prefer a 10 rnd mag which seems 'elusive' for this model. The other model I'm looking at is the 10FCP-SR which actually comes with a 10 rnd mag as standard. I had read on one review that these are the same rifles? I was wondering if I bought spare mags for the FCP-SR if I could use them on the TR? I've not been able to find any useful info regading this at the Savage site.

The TR can be found at SFRC for $699,and the FCP-SR at Cabelas.ca for $859. I'd rather spend less ;-) I've seen posts regarding the Darkeagle mag, but these show up at $100+ per, and listed as sold out anywhere they are listed in Canada.

The other thing that concerns me is that on one review of the FCP-SR, the user was having issues with the 'harder primers of surplus' ammo ... Where this is not an issue on semi-auto's but might be a problem on bolt actions?

    looking forward to comments ...

    Thanks,

    Scratch

I've never had issues with hard primers and bolt actions.

The only problem I had was with a Savage 10 FCPSR and milsurp 7.62x51 was after firing a round, it would take a hammer to open the bolt up and extract the round.

Yes. Might have just been that batch that I used. I've used other milsurp in different guns without any problems.

Those are the ones with the really tight necks, aren't they?
    Don't blame me, I didn't vote for that clown. Oct 20, '15

Not sure. I bought the first one sold in Canada. This was back when the stocks were the same camo as the "Precision Carbine" rifle stocks.
