Hey, mushroom experts! I found some of these in my neighborhood while walking the dogs.

    Is it a true morel?
Is there a dangerous look-alike that can be mistaken for a morel?
Any tips or advice for this non-forager?

I just picked some Morals yesterday and had them with supper. That was the first time I had ever picked any wild mushrooms and coincidentally I came across the ones I picked while walking the dog as well.

I brought my container full to our towns local mushroom expert and he assured me that they were edible Morals, I ate them yesterday and I am still alive today.

I am not saying that the one in your picture is a Moral but the ones I picked looked the same as the one in your picture but were a lot darker in color.

I am no mushroom expert so before you eat check with a trustworthy person who knows for sure, our local expert guy told me yesterday when mushroom picking the saying is "when in doubt throw it out".

There’s three or four different types of morel. Varying colours and one has a slightly different shape, though I can’t find the article I have on it. It’s here somewhere.....

That's what I read. Some local dude confirmed with reasonable certainty that they are. So I'll be picking them.
