    The Social Media Battlespace

What 'Skynet' represents in fiction is 'Facebook' in real-life

This becomes especially true when Facebook controls what you know by restricting your access to information.

    How do they do this?

They tell you they are protecting you from obscene information. At what point in time do we start burning text books and shouting "Heil Hitler"?

There is a storm on the horizon and if continues to grow we will find ourselves in a time of hardship and pain. Facebook's global network is strong but we can reverse this destructive pattern of information control. There is no fate, but what we make.

    Hey there,

    I enjoyed your video.

    I like your restaurant analogy.

Personally, even though I am a gun owner, it's not the #1 most important thing in the world to me, and I am not a single issue voter unlike most of the people who probably populate this forum.

When I heard the news, I was like "oh crap, one less source to find milsurps" in my mind. I use Facebook a lot, and I'm going to continue to use Facebook a lot, for my own reasons. I think you can still have groups about guns, but the transactions are what is no longer allowed. It sucks hearing about the NFA, hopefully the issue will be resolved soon.

I sometimes wear very controversial clothing, including anti-religious clothing, but I have never been turned away. I guess I have never met a business owner who cared about anything more than they did my business.

    That's just my thoughts.

Are you suggesting Facebook will achieve sentience in the future? Just remember this phrase : "this statement is false." An AI can't handle a paradox.
Respect the gun, but do not fear it.

Yeah - i get that worked on 'star trek' computers, but that was solved by real world programmers years ago by inserting a "this guy's an idiot" subroutine and a loop counter.

The Google data system will ultimately be used to create the first self aware computer.

I was off Facebook from 2007 until 2015.

I came back right in the middle of the Federal election to engage in the dialogue and promote the CPC, but also because the key components of the Sharing Economy are derivatives of social media network components.

Either way, I wouldn't be too worried about Facebook engaging in censorship of gun owners. I think it's actually a good thing, in that it's establishing Facebook as a "brand" as opposed to a "big tent." This in turn will have the natural effect of creating demand for alternative networks for the information Facebook censors (including and especially forums like this one), which will have the opposite effect of what the OP in the video was expressing concern over: creating decentralization of information, making it impossible for malicious actors (especially ideological governments) to come after the individuals that comprise groups, like gun owners.

Craigslist has always been anti gun. Kijiji is not gun friendly in the least but tolerates air soft, reloading, and some accessories. Ebay never allowed firearms but still allows accessories. Amazon, at least in the states, has alot of firearms related merch, just no guns.

FB going anti doesn't bother me much personally. I've never really liked it much. Being conscious of my digital signature makes me leery about over sharing on a site that basically admits it sucks up your data in order to make money off of you. ( Also why I avoid Google like the plague ).

The bonus to this is that sales will just move to more pro-gun places. The money FB would have made will instead go to other sites that welcome our business and provide the shooting community with resources to communicate with each other. That seems to be a good thing to me. The few million that FB looses is a drop in the bucket that they'll never notice but to some small firearms oriented web sites ( like this one that's a huge deal.

Atm this doesn't seem to be a full blown censorship drive. There's still alot of gun sites on FB. If/when they ever go down that road we'll deal with it then.
