The best-made knives I've ever seen were from a company called "Masters of Defense", which was a super cheesy name, but the knives were awesome.

They were bought out by Blackhawk about 10 years ago, but if you ever come across a still-new MoD knife, take it.

They made everything from folders to hardcore combat knives:

Expensive but worth it, unlike Benchmade or Spyderco.
    I have no signature block.

Benchmade was really high quality in the 90's and early 2000's. I still have a griptillion I bought in 2001. It was much nicer than my spyderco and others at the time.

Fast forward to today. Things have evolved and more companies have nicer product. I own a number of different knife brands including spyderco. Gerber once had a reputation for quality too.

Fredo, rather than tell you a mature, "If you don't like it, don't buy it"...opps I did do that ;-)

If you want to exclude fanboys of either brand it will come down to this: If you like the Endura then you will buy a Spyderco knife; if you like a Griptillian then you will buy a Benchmade knife. Rather simple.

They still make a high quality product but I have found that as of late their quality control is slipping. I'll pretty much always pay the extra buck to go to a brick and mortar store for benchmades rather than take a risk online.
