    Canadian military hlvw

Any Canadian forces members have opinions or info on the steyr/utdc HLVW's?

Interested in buying one with a crane on it, but not sure if they are reliable, or if you can get parts for them.

Im sure there's gotta be a vehicle tech here on this site that could give you the skinny. I worked at DND maintenance facility for a bit but I wasn't around the HL's . Nor did I see any really in the shop.

Just think, if the military is getting rid of it, whats wrong? Normally we get rid of vehicles or items because. It costs too much to repair, Its beyond repairable or spent too much fixing it.

It was one of the vehicles we had fewer problems with. Perhaps the contract with steyr is over as well as purchasing spare parts being the reason for selling them.

If its the ones I'm thinking, they were not the Steyr built ones.

They were built in Canada by utdc, licensed through steyr. I've found a few pdf's online saying some are getting life extensions till 2019, but they have a bigger truck replacing them.

Funny what replaced the MLVW is better than the HLVW.

No that was the LSVW the one that failed 3 trials but still was adopted. The tactical hear you 3 miles away brakes, the catch on fire stupid heaters. It was a Western star/FIAT abortion.

The MLVW sure it was under powered, and bit noisy/and lacking in the comfort level. But in 12 years, ML was my favorite truck ( sucked when I needed to do every 2nd weekend runs from NS to Gagetown NB ). I spent more time driving it off road than on. Its where it excelled.
