    The Hot Zone

6 part tv series based upon the Richard Preston book The Hot Zone, which detailed the discovery of Ebola Reston.

    Available on Amazon / StackTV

Just started watching but it looks decent and Richard Preston was a producer.

    It was filmed in Toronto!

Spoiler: The strain of Ebola show in the series doesn't affect humans, so even though some people did get infected with it, no one died or anything...

There are multiple strains of Ebola. The one that killed monkeys in Virginia ended up being called Ebola Reston and it only infects monkeys. There was a controversy because at the time it was believed to be airborne, unlike any of the other Ebola strains. A truly airborne Ebola virus that could infect humans would be a VERY SERIOUS problem.

Later on it became more clear that Reston was not airborne but had been passed by direct droplet spread from monkeys spitting and blowing mucous and snot around.

Interesting side note: Marburg virus, which is mentioned in the miniseries, is a relative of Ebola and was first discovered in Marburg, Germany but it is not from Germany. The index patient was a German man who was infected in Africa and brought the virus home with him.

Amazon has multiple sub-channels that you have to subscribe to individually.

StackTV is $5 a month. The reason we got it is because it has the Seal Team series.
