Ammo, camo and things that go "blammo".

Quality over Quantity.....
Previously- Rivetc78 from CGN
I was about to quote US General George S. Patton, who, when talking about the Sherman Tank vs German tanks in WWII, famously said "Quantity has a quality all it's own."
The Sherman was good enough, and more importantly the allies were able to provide the logistical support needed to make it the best it could be. That’s where the real difference is between the Allies and the Germans. The best thing about Shermans is that there were always more Shermans, there were replacement parts for them, there was fuel and ammo for them, etc.
Logistics wins wars.
But in verifying the quote, I stumbled upon
- This chapter analyzes Patton's defense of the Sherman in the face of scathing criticism following the Battle of the Bulge. It argues that the general's advocacy on behalf of the tank salvaged its reputation both at the time and for generations to come. It shatters Patton's defense of the Sherman, and unhesitatingly demonstrates that all too often the men assigned to America's premier tank “were slaughtered because of the use of such an inferior” weapon. Patton, who understood all too well the Sherman's myriad flaws, rushed to defend the tank because he knew that it would remain the armored division's workhorse and that public criticism would only hurt the morale of his tankers and in turn the war effort. The chapter concludes that Patton's defense of the Sherman inadvertently contributed to a host of postwar studies that championed the tragically flawed weapon and played a role in fostering contemporary popular culture's depictions of the Sherman as a war-winning weapon.
-- https://academic.oup.com/fordham-sch...dFrom=fulltext- The most common attribution of "Quantity has a quality all it's own." is to Joseph Stalin, because this quote is reminiscent of the Marxist theoretical principle that steady quantitative changes can lead to a sudden qualitative leap. BUT, no evidence that this phrasing is due to Stalin, and it does not appear in English translations of his philosphical works. Earliest English is found in 1979 in US defense industry, presumably defense consultant Thomas A. Callaghan Jr. The connection of sufficient quantitative change leading to qualitative change is found in Marxist philosophy, by Marx and Engels, drawing from Hegelian philosophy and Ancient Greek philosophy. Marx and Engels are quoted by Stalin, but this formulation appears to be a modern American form; see quantity for details. ( https://en.wikiquote.org/w/index.php...&oldid=1993027 ). Elsewhere "I believe the quote of 'Quantity is quality' is usually attributed to Napoleon talking about military tactics/strategy, but then it is probably way older then that, going back to the dawn of military history simply because it is pretty obvious."

Stink’n cold weather these last four weeks. But today, beautiful! So I emptied a few ammo cases. Shot 322 rounds from four different guns.
Now….gin & tonic.
