Remington 597 receiver broke by recoil lug

I assume it's like a recoil lug or helps hold in barrel to receiver. Anyways Wondering if anyone has seen this or thinks it may be covered under warranty.... Obviously without original invoice.

That's ugly I'd be on the phone to Gravel Agency first thing in the morning with the SN at hand

Curious how this occurred as well. Mine has been great aside from a few hiccups with the bolt hold open tab getting sticky.

They sure don't make 'em like they used to. I still have my Grandfathers Remington single shot bolt action .22LR. That sucks OP, I hope you can get warranty/ money back.

Guys at work have a 597 in 17 and the bolt handle keeps coming out of the bolt so I would never buy one because of that reason let alone seeing this thread now.

The 597's in 17 HMR were all recalled by the factory, as were most of the semi autos chambered in it by other manufacturers. The pressure is too high for a blowback action and was causing all sorts of trouble. Savage and maybe T/C have since come out with delayed blowback models that have sorted out most of the issues, but your buddy might be able to get a full refund on that gun from Remington. The lawyers claim it's too dangerous to shoot at any rate.....

Still pretty satisfied with my 597 HB, though I really like the Marlin semi auto I picked up on sale a few weeks back.
