    I just have the little salton one from Walmart and it works great for jerky... but you can get the bigger ones for about $200

    I use the smoker now, but at first I just used the oven. Soak your jerky in your marinade (soy sauce/worchester/olive oil + spices base is simple)
    Oven on low and leave the door open just a crack. Takes a few hours, and you're done.

    I bought my dehyrdator at Peavy Mart - I think it the "american harvest" brand. Works great!

    Dehydrator sounds like a good idea. Might have to look into one.

    I too have never tried a Clif Bar, but after seeing them posted here I commanded...well, asked nicely...my wife to grab some at Costco; cheap for what you get, taste pretty good! Definitely going to shove some in my pack...beside the jerky and trail mix
    Oh, trying out a Camel-back-knock-off-water-bladder-with-hose-thingy this year too, seems a nice balanced way to carry water.
