    Neat hand me downs

Helped the uncle clean out a couple of storage lockers he hasn't touched in a decade this evening. He and my cousin were packing up keepsakes and what they could move to BC in a U haul and donating the rest to Goodwill, so I had first pick of whatever was left. A nearly new BBQ, a NIB Mr. Heater forced air propane heater, a filing cabinet, brand new 4ft ladder, a sander and a Chicago Blackhawks garbage can followed me home. And these! Grandpa's old fishing rods and their travel cases, one of them even bearing a brass plate with his name.

I couldn't let them go.....I figure they'll make great wall hangers when we finally move into a bigger place and I get my den/man room/whatever. I've never really seen these rods and cases before, though vintage fishing gear isn't really my thing. The handles come off to slide in the cases with a sort of nut and ferrule setup, and the rods appear to be fibreglass (?), though the True Temper one has a bit of a wood look. Anyone have any ideas on vintage or any other info?

They're fibreglass rods and most likely date back to the mid 50's and early 60's. True Temper was a mass producer of fishing rods back then. The wood look was likely a result of trying to mimic the appearance of bamboo, a material high end rods of the time were made of. They're neat old rods for sure and look well used. Definitely a good score and great wall hangers.
I'd rather make a difference than a dollar.

Talking to Dad this morning, he says he has a pair of his old man's bamboo fly rods of a similar vintage and maybe even the reels stuffed in the garage somewhere. Might have the makings of a full blown display here.
