Here's her current configuration. Saw it land at Richardson Intn'l Airport a few years back. What a rush.

In the late 1980s, when FM213 was just finished being painted as VR-A, she flew from Hamilton to CFB Trenton for its first display for the regular Air Force. I was on staff at Air Transport Group HQ and was assigned to be the EA for Air Commodore Len Birchall, the Saviour of Ceylon. I followed him as his dog-robber for a couple of days. One of the things he chose to do was a full tour of VR-A. I went with him and was standing beside him as he sat in the pilot's seat. He moved on and, as the gentleman that he was, dropped a hint that I should try the seat out as well. Not wishing to appear ungrateful or rude, I got some seat time in it as well. We went further around inside and I got to sit in every seat, even the tail gunners position. That one was very cramped since I am 6'1" and was in my S3 uniform. One of my most favorite memories, that short tour with A/C Birchall in FM213.

Here she is on static display outside Goderich Ont sometime in the 60s. I'm standing on the monument.
So thrilled I was to take a tour through her in Hamilton, after all the unimaginable work to make her airworthy again.
It really hit home what a glorified sardine can it must have felt like, getting shot at from the ground and from the air while trying to keep her straight and level for a bomb run.

Air Commodore Birchall was the best of us I met him briefly twice and he struck me as one to treat everyone encountered with respect .

Thank you for the reference to the clip. I greatly enjoyed it and it brought back many memories. I had occasions to be a member of the audience when he spoke and was always in awe of his leadership style.

That is not too hard. Birchall was a leader, Hillier was a boss.
