How come these new rifles aren't classified as "variants" and branded restricted, but that AK-47 looking .22LR is prohibited as a "variant" of the actual AK47? Both the AR-15 style rifles and AK-47 rifles are classified by OIC if I recall.

I’m more inclined to just get an AR, as it’s restricted by name. A NR AR risks being made prohibited.

Shouldn't the question be why are ARs and AKs restricted or prohibited based on name rather then technical standards applied to most firearms. Attempting to find logic in Canadian firearms laws is an exercise in futility

Are you upset this new firearm isn't being properly classified?

Don't try to understand the "why". You will only go insane. Canadian firearms laws and interpretations never make sense, they just are what they are and on purpose.

More likely restricted. But any change in classification creates big headaches for the establishment.

Nobody is selling it yet. It's only recently been approved. They haven't officially launched the product.

Maccabee Defense is out of Alberta, and already act as a distributor for other products, I suspect they'll be acting as a retailer on these as well.

Seen lots of speculation on the prices and availability or stripped receivers. Just need to wait and see what comes down the pipe.
