It’s a knife. Who cares if it opens slightly faster. By that reasoning, shouldn’t a fixed blade knife be even more dangerous, because the blade is always out and ready for stabbin’?
Easier to conceal, one handed opening in an expedient manner would be my guess. But as you said, fixed blade knife is even more although slightly less concealable That said, they're all tools.

Might not have been such a bad thing that I lost my knife recently...

Seriously, how many extra people are stabbed in a year because the blade can be opened in 1/4 second rather than 1 second?
I'm sure this will save all the children, probably the whales too.

The CBSA must be quite proud of themselves for keeping civilisation safe from the hordes.
What !?!?! Come on man. Everybody knows... Knife + 1 hand = Dead babies everywhere. Knife + 2 hands = no dead babies. I cant even begin to talk about the 1 handed opening dead kitten horrors. I think I need to lay down now.

So...I wonder how many people will be coming to me to have me drill a hole in their knife blade with a cobalt drill bit and make them a thumb stud. Lol.

Read where they're deriving their definition from. According to the CBSA, they are prohibited weapons under the criminal code. By all accounts, as far as the CBSA is concerned, if you're caught bringing one into Canada, they can charge you under the criminal code. Now....will the cops interpret it the same way ? I'm thinking that eventually, some do gooder cop or cbsa officer is going to read this CBSA directive and charge someone with having a prohibited weapon. Then, all we can do is pray that they have a good lawyer because that will set the president on whether this nonsense continues, or if it's stopped dead in it's tracks.

If the cop doesn't like you(you're some vocal pro gun troublemaker), I guarantee you will be charged. I don't care if you have a butter knife in your pocket.

The way I read the CBSA notice, thumbstuds are also included in the prohibited if the blade can be moved with gravity in any position because you can use the thumb stud to get it there.

Sounds like any knife other than a slipjoint is now prohibited.

If you can use a flipper tab, or thumb stud to open it slightly then a flick to take over and open it it sounds like they are going to stop import.

This is going to have to be challenged by one of the larger dealers/importers and we better hope they win.

    What a crock of s^&*!

I gotta get the hell out of this country!
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You may not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first 2 things you are gonna do are 1) Call someone with a gun, and 2) Pray that they arrive quick enough to save you.

If you go to the link in post #4, it's already been appealed.
So any further appeal on the current wording would have to be done at the Supreme Court.

EDIT: see post #30 and #31

It was done through the Canadian International Trade Tribunal though. Thats not the legal courts is it ? Can this still not be dragged through there ?
