Want to do in Punta Cana??

    Hello fellow shooters,

Myself and the missus are off to Punta Cana in a few weeks. Time to get away from the Cowtown weather!
Any information good and bad about the local area would be great.
    - places to eat
    - day excursions
    - places to go and stay away from (being Military I highly doubt that )

    Thanks for the help!

    Cheers!!

Take organized tours if you plan on leaving the resorts.

We had armed security following us on every excursion we went on three years ago.

I liked Puerta Plata better, a little less tourist trappy. Best thing I found to do in Punta Cana was drink rum on the beach all day and smoke big cigars.
There were some pretty wicked zip lines on one of the tours, though riding in the old 6x6 military truck over what the Dominicans like to term 'roads' was the most exciting part of the trip.
Buy your cigars at the resort store or airport. The street vendors and fake shantytown shops on the edges of most of the resorts love to give you a good cigar to try then sell you a box of counterfeit sawdust stogies....
We were warned that some of the cabs were owned by the local mob and would take you well off the resort and then refuse to deliver you to your destination unless you forked over a 'destination fee' of sorts....
