"50% of firearms used in crimes are stolen from Canadians"

I've heard this stat alot lately, or facimilies of it. However I've not been able to firm up where this info comes from. I've heard the RCMP, but that's it.

I'm very dubious of the claim and am wondering if anyone has more info on where this stat is coming from, and the data behind it (or lack thereof).

change the 50% to 14% of traced gunes and change Canada to Western Canada and than you would be correct - there are no stats collected on guns used as crime guns / types of crimes for Canada nor do the police inform or transfer that information to CFP or any collecting group other than internal.
