How much did your PAL/RPAL cost?

So I was scrolling down on facebook and I seen a ad for a business advertising PAL/RPAL course...

Till I seen the price....310$ for your PAL/PAL course.........I was like Holy ....... what a rip off? Didn't say anything about the hunter safety.

    I did mine at the NSCC for 100$ + tax ( both ) Now it's 120$ + tax.

You would think bigger province, with more people. Be cheaper prices? But it's total opposite. How can business justify 300$ ?

Mine was $100 for CFSC, plus $100 for CRFSC, for a total of $200. Years ago.

    Because they think they can?

Depending on class size and if it’s spur of the moment/on demand you’re paying for convenience.

If they’re that busy, it’s one way to evaluate your value. And maybe those instructors are providing enough extra value to the service? Maybe actually shooting firearms, more hands on, more information about legal issues, etc?

Why work for less than you can? That’s socialist.

I think mine was ~125 to 150 tax in for the CFSC + 100$ for the Club level & CRFSC Challenge. Recently I've heard 350$ ball park to do it where I did and another place 250 ish. Look around I guess? YMMV.

I suspect that's part of it too. Maybe out where you are, they're "volunteering" some of their time.

Supply and demand. The CFOs enable this type of gouging by making it difficult for people to be approved as instructors.

8 years ago at the Alberta Hunter Education and Instructor's Association (AHEIA) it was a minimum donation of 65$ for each course. If you donated $90 bucks (I think it was), they gave you a tax receipt.

For those in Edmonton, it's a good place to go.

I challenged the pal/rpal as well as the core.

But both people that teach the course here in town charge $300 for both courses over two days I believe
