I thought those traditional lobster traps were to sell to tourists. First time I've seen them in use in a long time. Not knocking them. I use traditional snowshoes which are kinda similar and I prefer them.

People tried the wire ones and the old style out fished them.

How long do you let them soak before checking them? It would be cool to see the catch.

Cool pics, keep 'em coming. How far off shore do you go?
I'd rather make a difference than a dollar.

Just a day except we don't fish sundays so mondays are a 2 day soak.

Not very far. We're inshore and that's pretty much just deep enough water for the boat to not run a ground, out to about 80ft deep. We usually put a couple out in about 100ft of water, just to see what's out there.
Distance wise... I don't know. We can always see land though.
We fish on a rock reef, out far enough - it turns to mud. Sand(full of crabs) on other sides.

(iirc)Southwest Nova is the deep water guys. They're also out in the miserable winter.

So back in 1990 I had lobster. A friend got a box of lobster sent to him each year from his brother. I got 2 for my wife and I.
I miss the coast of BC. Crabs, prawns, shrimp and greenling. Fisherman without his coast I am.

My uncle's boat blew a steering hose so we had to tow him back to shore.
