Using the dillon for 223? What's your setup?

Dillon xl650 is the machine, I just changed it over to 9mm so the #2 son and I can reload a bunch of pistol rounds over xmas. I have a buddy that wants to come out and run a bunch of his 9mm through the machine as well. The 223 I reloaded have a 55gr fmj over 21.5 grs of H322. not the most ideal powder for 223 but I have a lot of it. May pick up some H335 which is a little better in a powder measure. I will switch back to 223 closer to spring as I have a wack of cases to load.

Are you trimming on the press? Or getting all the brass ready off press?

Just switched the press over to do a bunch of 40S&W. Hoping to run through all of that this weekend at the latest. Cases have been ultrasonic cleaned.

With rifle cases I trim off the press, I will take a large batch and size, deprime then trim with a Frankford power trimmer. Last winter I prepped 3500 or so 223 cases so they are ready to go, I was playing with some different loads till I found one I liked in the WK180. Got that wrote down in my little black book. Tis a labor of love all this pissing around loading 223 when you can buy it at some sale prices. A buddy gave me a large bag of 223 cases mostly Chinese, so later this winter I will prep those, looks like i'm not heading south for a month so I need something to do besides nurse maid cows.

Finally got around to cranking out some 410ís tonight

    A57143AC-9FFF-437E-91DE-CE809071B0C3.jpg

Built and tried an idea to contain spills. Took a carpet remnant, cut an opening to fit the reloader, folded the ends up and fastened then with pop rivets. Caught any errant shot much better than a cookie sheet.

Should be a little over 500 rounds in this tub.

Another night Iíll inspect them as I box them. Iíll be a happy camper if I get to shoot that much 410 skeet next summer!

Funny, I am using a nearly identical setup on my 550. Your 21.5gr H322 is fairly light. One of my manuals says 23.0gr is max load. I've been loading 22.8gr to ensure I don't go over max.

The 550 has been really good for 223 but I am struggling with it on 300 Blackout. I need to sort out a powder measure for it.

I measured all my cases and just trimmed the ones that needed it. I modified an RCBS trimmer to allow me to use a hand drill to turn the shaft. Twisting one of those trimmers by hand for hundreds of cases REALLY SUCKS.

A new thing I am trying is 158gr SWC bullets in 9mm. I discovered a good stash of these bullets I didn't know I had and I don't have a 38/357 to shoot them in.

A bit of research shows while not common, a fair number of people have used such bullets successfully in their 9mm autoloaders. A quick test the other days shows they certainly work. Just tweaking the recipe right now for the powders I have on my bench.

Trying 180 gn Campro PSP in virgin Privi brass, CCI BR-2 primers, and exactly 40 grns of IMR 4064.
First time for me for Camproís, am really curious to see how the No I Mk IIIís and No 4 Mk 1* rifles take to these.

Working on a sub-sonic load for my 9mm Beretta CX4 carbine.
Factory ammo at 25yds I shoot the centre out of a target, at 50yds it really opens up.
Tried some max loads with CFE-Pistol, same thing, good @ 25yds opens right up at 50yds. Put the approx. ballistic info into a ballistic program and found the bullets slowing down thru the sound barrier ~35-38yds.

    Trying some 125gn LCN bullets, 700-X powder. Hodgdon's 2019 Annual pg150, shows 2.9gn@899fps - 3.4gn@993fps from a 4" barrel
I loaded a couple of test rounds @ 2.9gns, just barely ejects brass from the CX4's action.
Plan today is load 10 test rounds @ 3.0gns & 3.3gns. Then, weather permitting, run them thru the chronograph to get basic speed & accuracy results.
Take a kid fishing, hunting and/or shooting.
