Smelt Fishing

When I was a kid my dad used to us smelt fishing somewhere around Nipigon, ON. It was a big deal for us kids because we got to go out after dark. I remember those trips as being a great adventure. Haven't thought about smelt fishing in over 40 years.

Hey Purdom, Nipigon is the place I get my catch of smelts every year. Still great fishing in the land of the Nipigon.

All those new balls on the power line crossing the River in Nipigon probably freaked them out for a while….

Just got back home with half a five gallon pail full of Smelts. Absolutely beautiful night, 9 degrees Celsius with no wind, Peeper Frogs peeping away, the Northern Lights out in full force and of course a good run of Rainbow Smelts.

Only took about seven or eight scoops to get my fill of smelts. I will clean them tomorrow and then we will have a fish fry for supper. Yummy.
