Senate resumed debate on C-71. Conservative Senator Paul McIntyre speaks about the need for transparency and introduces an amendment to C-71 requiring the federal gov't to provide an annual report on classifications and the reasons for them.

Senator Pratte agrees transparency is needed, but speaks against amendment. He says Goodale has reassured them the FRT will be made public "within a few months".

Senator Plett seeks to make disclosure mandatory rather than an option for the gov't. Plett goes on to discuss how reclassifications make criminals out of otherwise law abiding gun owners.

Senator Tony Dean thinks gun owners and advocacy groups just have a "relationship issue" with the regulator and wishes the RCMP would reach out to gun owners.

Vote on the motion for transparency is adjourned until tomorrow. Plett states there will be more amendments to discuss before a 3rd reading can be completed.

Looks like today several amendments were proposed, all defeated. I don't know what they were.

May be a vote on third reading Thursday May 16th.

    Interesting observation

I thought for sure if the liberal majority on the committee amended the bill than they would convince the liberal majority of senators to follow suit and approve. I can't believe the senate trampled their own committee report. Not sure how often that happens.

In any event, at third reading more amendments can be proposed debated and voted on before actual third reading. Hopefully the senators propose fresh amendments every single day to keep the delay going.

Liberal majority on the committee (for C-71) didnít amend the bill, the Conservatives did with the help of an abstention or two and one ISG (or non-affiliated) voting with them.

Another amendment proposed and voted down. Adjourned until the 27th. It looks like they're working Mondays now. McPhedran is a moonbat. Five weeks...

Any summary on what amendments were proposed then voted down? (Also that's a decent length adjournment. Shame about the working Mondays.)

It's only a week off. That's short for them.

It may not look like it, but this was the amendment and it would have been a good thing:

And on the motion in amendment of the Honourable Senator Dagenais, seconded by the Honourable Senator Plett:

That Bill C-71 be not now read a third time, but that it be amended

(a)on page 1, in clause 1, by replacing lines 4 to 9 with the following:

    “1 Section 2 of the Firearms Act is amended by adding the”;

(b)on page 11, by deleting clause 16; and

    (c)on page 12,

    (i)by deleting clauses 18 to 21, and

(ii)in clause 22, by replacing lines 21 and 22 with the following:

    “22 (1) Subsections 3(2) and 4(2) come into force on a day”.
