    Decided I needed a gong

So I needed a gong. I went across the street to a Steel shop and told them I wanted a 12"x12" steel plate to make a gong. Couple days later they obliged. Cost me $100.

So I took it out shooting and realized a proper stand was needed (was using an old metal chair frame). Well I'm a cheap bastard so I went to Canadian Tire. Picked up the saw horse brackets for $5, some pieces of chain (which are actually twice as long as I need them), some nuts, bolts, and washers. I then asked around for some cheap 2x4 pieces of the lengths I needed and went to work.

It was cheap, it was simple to make, it all comes apart to easy storage. I don't think I can complain... until I put a couple rounds through it by accident but then I just get a new piece of 2x4!

Those $12(when on sale) metal sawhorses from crappy tire also make fairly decent target stands

Unless you put tannerite on them.

How is the plate standing up so far?

I used a piece of pressure treated 2x6 for the cross bar on mine, but used some U bolts to attach pieces of 3/4” steel pipe for legs. Cut one end to a point so the legs can be hammered into the ground, pack a ratchet and with a few cranks the whole thing breaks down into a small bundle that doesn’t take up a bunch of space in the back of the truck.

99.9% of shots do nothing but scratch off paint. I two shots hit the same hole and that left a small dent in the metal.

I haven't shot it at 500 yards yet and that will be the test to see if it stands up.

The Drummond steel targets are amazing. Canadian brand, and pricy but worth it.

I have shot them with full steel core penetrating green tip 5.56 and 7.62 and the targets just lose paint. Not so much as a dent.
