That, and abandoning social conservatives, whom he'd led on for a long time.

Lots of Asian Christians didn't donate or volunteer as they formerly did, and lots of rednecks voted for decriminalized cannabis.

One thing I always liked about Harper was even though the left tried to use his religion against him (old white grey haired evangelical) he never mixed politics and religion, nor flaunted his religion. I didn't even know his religion till he left office.

Which is precisely the person I want in office. I don't give a damn about your personal beliefs, can you do the job?

I liked Harper, had he been more personable, I believe he would still have PM of Canada today.

That....and the legalization of pot. People want MORE freedom, not less, and Harper refused to recognize it.

Yup, the dope fiends voted turdo II in.
Now ganja is legal and pardons are free for those busted for simple possession (personal use).

The 2015 election hinged on legalizing dope but Harpers obsession with c51 the so-called NSA bill was a big factor.
Harpers failure to repeal c68 was the big injury and the added gun control in c42 was the insult that drove a lot of gun owners out of the CPC fold.

Harper told the truth about the economy and that to continue the fiscal healing and recovery he started involved making hard economic choices and a national “belt tightening”.
Spoiled Canadians who were never good at accepting and dealing with the truth voted instead for mind numbing ganja, Liberal lies and more free stuff bought with borrowed off shores money.

But the CPC will continue to float the “vote for us because we support gun owners” fallacy as long as it draws donations and votes.
The CPC is no doubt less vehemently in favour of gun control than the LPC but that’s not saying much in their favour.
Now we have another CPC leader vowing to repeal gun control laws.
Judge that declaration in light of their track record in that regard.
Not by what the CPC politicians say their track record is but by what the historical facts are according to your own research.
