2019 Hunting and Half Truths thread

Well....itís here! Picked up my deer tag and gamebird license a few days ago. Today I put up my first tree stand, cleared some shooting lanes, checked the goose decoys and took the nephew for a walk along a whole pile of field edges searching for grouse. Unsuccessful, but we did a little target practise with the .410ís, and saw a pile of deer including a pair of pretty decent bucks not far from where Iíll be doing a lot of my deer hunting. All in all it was better than working.....

    Whatís everyone else up to?

Went out with Steve from EMPrecision on sept 4th. Saw plenty of deer on private land, 18 black bears, mix of boars, sows and cubs, including a couple cinnamons. None of the boars stayed long enough to get a shot at, brought home a nice meat doe and some grouse. Great day to just get away. Next trip is first weekend in October, looking for moose, deer and hopefully a bear.

Got my hands on some vintage shells for my Sweet 16 Auto 5. Just dying to try them out on ditch chicken. These came from Thunder Bay when it was Fort William & Port Arthur. The price kills me. Two full boxes and the shells are mint.

Back then, even camera shops sold guns and ammunition.

I worked for Don’s Photo when I first came to Winnipeg, we could still get rifle scopes through the Nikon dealer, though they didn’t stock them.

(it's a joke people, no hunting sows with cubs).

I was dumping some chicken guts on the back 40 today and scared a nice pair of whitetail bucks and 3 does out of a bush.
I sure hope they stick around for a couple months.

Out with the dog for a little walk around my parents looking for grouse, none to be seen.
The dog sure enjoyed it though, flaked out beside me now.
the wild still lingered in him and the wolf in him merely slept

Scouting two hunting spots on private property. One has an unauthorized tree stand, likely from a neighbor. Second one, guy has an elevated blind on his property, but the apples and salt lick aren’t. Severely limits options due to overshoot area.
