PS- the handguard and nut look a little odd- maybe it is the picture angle?

I pretty well had to mount the scope that far back to get decent eye relief. I was using the rear bag. The rifle range is mostly closed this week for LE requalification and Mom is visiting. Next week I should be able to get there and try swapping lowers with buddy's Oracle, will also try the scope on his rifle.

Dump the rear bag and use your hand (fist) under the stock to steady the rifle (as above)

I use a similar rear bag on my semis, I can't see why he should ditch it

Because under recoil the stock is gonna suddenly lose contact with the bag and then the pistol grip is gonna run into the bag. No chance of accuracy shooting like that.

I assumed he wasn't shooting the rifle in that position, when it's further back under the stock, they rarely want to stay sitting still(so moved to take a photo)
Maybe he was leaving it in that position while shooting, which wouldn't be ideal.

I put the scope in a Nikon Precision Black mount. https://www.nikonsportoptics.com/en/...mount-msr.html

I swapped my lower into a M&P upper with offset iron sights, 1 group, M&P lower on my upper didnt improve the accuracy, I put the scope on the M&P again, 1 groups, so it is NOT:
    -my lower
    -my scope
    -my scope mount

It has to be the barrel or the way the barrel is mounted, what else eh?

Probably an issue with the barrel. Did it ever shoot well?

No, not really. It was recently at the gunsmith to get a FF handguard put on and I asked him to give it a look-over as one of the gas rings blew out of the bolt. He said it checked out.
