Outer's Foaming bore cleaner, or Sharpshootr's Wipe-Out foaming bore cleaner.
Spray it in, let it sit overnight, push a patch through.
Keep doing that until the blue stops.
    Ta-Dah, clean gun.

I have a Winchester model 88 lever gun in .308 that used to be really accurate out to at least 300 yrds (I never shot it past that), Now I can't hit dick at 50 yrds. There has been a lot of bullets down the tube and I think its wore out.
I am the 1st owner, approx.500 rounds through it. I've never had good results. I had sent a scope back to Bushnell because the "thing wouldn't hold zero", oops. It was the gun but I didn't know it.

Mine grouping wasn't this bad, but what I did do was use a couple small pieces of carpet tape between the upper and lower to make the pins tight. I need to squeeze it a bit to close it. The carpet tape is a little thicker and will squeeze down. It tightened up my groups. You only mentioned a little play between the upper and lower but it helped mine.

Upper to lower play makes little to no difference. Certainly not 8” at 40 the potential accuracy of an ar is almost entirely in the upper.

I have not, but I will. Thanks.

Worth a shot anyway. The 88 Winchester was a pretty good rifle in it’s day.

How about a picture of the rifle and scope mount?

Agreed, but it may be a combination of many little things and that is why it is hard to find the single issue. That is the only reason for the mention.

Nice looking rig- the Nikon is supposed to be a pretty decent optic- I have a Nikon Buckmaster that is excellent.
For me the scope is little far back- usually on an AR the scope ocular lens ends up even with the charging handle or so.Is it hard to get a good sight picture and consistent cheek weld?
