Ejection range of a semi 223

Today was my first experience operating a semi-223 at an outdoor range. I was having difficulty picking up the casings afterward. Very few on the cement area, and many in the gravel and grass to my right, up to 40 feet away. They may have bounced there, but they did not roll there. Does that seem normal?

For a mini 14, if you can find them in the same area code, you're under gassed lol

Yeah semi 223, eject pretty far.. I got a 45 ACP 1911.. That will eject cases 25- 30ft away. May I suggest a brass catcher ?

I made one from some ABS pipe, elbows and a cheap fishing net. ABS/elbows was mainly a stand for the fishing net.

Except I keep on forgetting it.

Yeah problem with those. You gotta remove them to check the chamber, or clear a jam. At least with a portable one, you can use with ANY gun.

I got one. It was like $7. It wasn't worth that much. That particular kind tends to kick brass back into the chamber and cause stoppages. There are some that have more of a box on the side that might be ok. If I'm going to be shooting off a bench I just stick a cardboard box next to me. It's not like 223 brass isn't free.

I've a piece of laundry bag mesh in a frame that just jams into a couple of drilled holes in my shooting table.
Works quite well, when I bring it smiley-bangheadonwall-yellow.gif
