    So honest question for those more in the know on elections. Does using a pen or marker not seem like a better option? Pretty hard to smudge that X or will using something other than the provided pencil void the vote?

    Yes you can use a pen.

    The r.o. offered to give me a list of the candidates (names only) for my reference, but I didn't need it.
