    Mossberg 4x4 30-06

Just ordered a mossberg 4x4 in 30-06, any thoughts on this riffle? Just couldn't pass it up at $362.00 new, tax and shipping in, and I don't have a 30-06. Just wondered if anyone has one, or shot one, online reviews look good, figure 1 dear pays for it, if it falls in a river, not too worried.

My brother had one, and it was a perfectly acceptable hunting rifle.
I think I even borrowed it on a bear hunt once.
He ended up trading it off on something else.
I saw those 4x4's on sale, and had to start thinking of reasons not to buy one.
Why does the rest of the country get first dibbs on half my income?

I hunted a few times with a guy who used one. (Wood stock, 30.06) No complaints from him.

I'm surprised the 4x4 is found new anywhere, they were discontinued about 5 years ago. There was a few small issues with the 4x4 so they eventually discontinued the model. They changed a bunch of things and then brought out the Patriot line to replace it. The 4x4 are usually great rifles for the money.

I have one in 338 WM.
The stock is flimsy, wiggles quite a bit.
The magazine well is plastic, and mine is broken and glued back together.
If you tighten up the action screws too much the magazine won't seat properly, maybe because of the broken mag well?
It has a muzzle brake, making it the loudest thing ever created by man.
Between the squishy butt pad and the brake, it kicks like a heavy load in a 30-06.
It has shot under 2" groups with just about every load I have tried in it, I have a couple that show some real promise.

It's a cheap rifle that just works well, I love it.
    Don't blame me, I didn't vote for that clown. Oct 20, '15

Mossberg still has the 4X4 manual on their site.

You can have a Boyd's laminated stock for $176US. You want long action. No border issues either.
And think 165 grain hunting bullets.

I still have what I believe was the precursor to the 4x4, the 100 ATR in 30-06. The internet PH's all said the integrally cast trigger guard would break off the stock; that the bolt was a defective 2 piece type, expect that fail and generally bad mouthed the overall quality. I have killed more deer with that rifle than any other I own, easily double digits. It was bought as a back-up knock around gun for a Camp Wainwright hunt in minus "god da**" weather and has performed flawlessly. If the day ever comes when it no longer functions mechanically and cannot be fixed it will definitely have it's barrel removed and used on a project gun.....fantastic pipe on that gun from the factory.

Ammo, camo and things that go "blammo".

Thanks all, sounds like a great shooter, maybe not such a good hunter, but for the price I don't think I'll regret it.
