Manitoba police watchdog investigates off-duty RCMP officer who fired gun inside his home

Playing with it, "cleaning it", or playing stupid games, or just poorly trained and incompetent?
Or, are the entry standards so low now that the average gravel road cop is lacking in the mental and physical requirements to do the job?

A Mountie who recently fired his gun in his home is being investigated by the Independent Investigation Unit.

The RCMP notified the IIU on Saturday that one of its members discharged his service weapon inside his residence that day.

He was off-duty at the time, the IIU said, and no injuries were reported.

The IIU director, Zane Tessler, determined an investigation was warranted after reviewing the circumstances of what happened.

Those details have not been made public and won't be released while the investigation is ongoing.

The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving on- and off-duty police in the province.

Sounds like there might be more to the incident than just an accidental discharge if the IIU felt that a full investigation is warranted . Maybe some type of domestic situation , or suicide attempt .

Wondering if his kid got a hold of it.

Simply put, the shot was reported. Generally if the officer was home alone and did something stupid, I could see them not reporting the incident. Meaning someone else reported it or there were witnesses to the stupidity.

It probably went off when he was doing his best Zoolander Blue Steel pose in front of the bathroom mirror while trying to snap that perfect pic for his Plenty ‘O Fish profile page.
