the change to 'nullify' the Certificates is
    - probably not a 'legal' thing, according to Ian Rumple, Ed Burlew, and Arkadi Bouchelev. i.e. there's nothing in the Firearms Act that allows that change.
    - because they issued the notice, the court may require that the Registrar issue a Firearm Registration Certificate Revocation Notice (happened a couple times a decade ago), at which point we start over.

I rather doubt the CFRO software has a 'nullification' option. I'll bet they just filled in the date in the ExpiredDate column, and possibly changed the CertificateStatus to something other than 'Active'. My point being, that the database is the certificate, and the database probably doesn't support what's happened either.

Yeah. I'm thinking along this line as well. He and his lap dogs were trying to do an end run around the proper procedure, but have found out that they are not going to get away with it; and so, they have to come out and plainly say what is going on as opposed to trying to dupe people into not knowing if they can/should exercise their rights under the law.

Or the RCMP could simply be trying to ensure everyone has been notified.
    a) they sent out that pamphlet, to all PALers I think
    b) they sent out the nullification letter, to all affected Restricted owners they knew about.

With two notifications, it's harder to deny that you were notified, when the Amnesty is up.

The Gazette should be enough, but who reads that (ignorance of the law is no excuse, even if no one reads it).
The newspapers and television news also covered it, but who listens to those on the critical days.
Add to that, the two notifications the RCMP snail mailed ...

i.e. they're building the case for the Crown Prosecutor.

Grandfathering is delayed confiscation. If we get grandfathering there will be no use allowed. Safe queens only.

The only purpose (to us) for grandfathering is to delay confiscation in the hopes a friendly government is eventually elected.

If that comes to pass it will require more substantial effort on our part. We will have to join the party of the “friendly” government and we will have to push for our rifles back. If we just vote then sit back with our expectations but do nothing personally then we will be in for a big let down.
