Looking for something simple under $200 fit for one person on short hikes.
I'm not going up the appalachian trails, just want to get out this fall and try overnighting.

Slept in a Cabela’s Big Horn III on a tiny island near Kenora this weekend. I can’t recommend it for backpacking though, we needed a pontoon boat to get it out there. Along with the cots, self inflating mattresses, sleeping bags and coolers of food.... I did have a backpack though....
How are the bugs? I’ve been playing with some tarp and paracord setups. Hoping to try it out once the mosquitoes quiet down a bit. It doesn’t get much lighter, or cheaper. And you can bring a nicer self inflating pad with that weight you saved. I won’t go camping without one of those things anymore, real back savers and great ground insulation.

Bugs will be minimum by the time I head out, fall, so cold nights

What's your budget? I have a 12 year old Mountain Hardwear 2-man warm weather tent that I really like. I like Marmot, and Sierra Designs for cooler weather. MSR also makes nice stuff. You can go pretty crazy when looking at lightweight backpacking gear. Especially tents. Carbon fiber poles, small and light, etc. The price adds up.

Ive been looking for something similar to carry on the bike for 1-2 night stays in the mountains. Must be small when folded up. Windproof, waterproof, mosquito proof and has to sleep one person. Watching the thread with anticipation.![]()

make sure it's big enough to sit upright comfortably and put on a sweater, that's minimum size imo
The small tube style tents make me feel like a bear burrito. I used to get by with a cheap 3 man tent from Walmart that was more like a one 6’2” person fitting comfortably with your gear tent. Eureka! (I think) had some similarly sized tents that looked a lot more storm resistant the last time I was looking at nylon tents. I bought a 7 person Woods tent on sale for outings with the kid.
