What is recommended for proper knife storage - in the sheath or out of the sheath ?

I talking between seasons ( long term ).

    Thanks

I've had knives stored for years in their sheathes. As long as they get a light coat of oil every year and are stored in a dry place, they're all good.

Just sink the tip into the side of your skinning pole when you're done, and pick up where you left off next year.

I usually store mine out of the sheath out of season, but I did have a Kershaw skinning knife in it's leather sheath for a decade before I found it again, and it suffered no ill effects.
Why does the rest of the country get first dibbs on half my income?

I keep a loose pile of them in an old dresser drawer. Along with some bayonets and gun parts....

Storing in a leather sheath might be more of an issue then the plastic/kydex sheaths? Maybe?

I give my hunting/skinning knives a good wash, let them dry, wipe them down with an oily rag, put them in their sheath and store them indoors.

I keep my knives in their sheaths, including my Bark River Kephart with leather sheath. Never had an issue.
I'd rather make a difference than a dollar.
