Where I live Super Save Gas is holding at $1.87/L for reg. All others trying to get $1.95 ++.

I will say it again, donuts went from .99 to $1.29 at Tim's, that is inflation!

Petro-Canada now at $208.9L, Super Save still holding at $187.9.

Here's hoping this continues. Edmonton's average home price this month is $409K for those who are interested.

Canada's average home price slides to $746,000, sales plummet amid rising rates

Home prices across Canada appear to be slipping under the weight of rising interest rates, with the nationwide average home price falling to $746,000 in April, down 6.3 per cent from March’s average of $796,000, according to data from the Canadian Real Estate Association.

The organization’s benchmark home price index — a metric designed to create an “apples-to-apples” comparison of typical home sales over time — also posted a decline of 0.6 per cent month-over-month, the first such decline since April 2020, CREA noted.

Sales volumes dropped precipitously as well, falling 12.6 per cent month-over-month and 25.7 per cent since a record April last year. While the decline was largely led by the Greater Toronto Area market, sales fell across 80 per cent of local markets.

“Following a record-breaking couple of years, housing markets in many parts of Canada have cooled off pretty sharply over the last two months, in line with a jump in interest rates and buyer fatigue,” CREA chair Jill Oudil said in a press release.

While prices slipped from March to April, the association noted that the average price was still up more than seven per cent over the same month last year and the benchmark price was still up 23.8 per cent year-over-year.

CREA senior economist Shaun Cathcart said this month’s data was less a reflection on the moves the Bank of Canada has already made and more about the sentiment around how far the central bank is prepared to go to tamp down inflation.

“After 12 years of ‘higher interest rates are just around the corner’ here they are,” Cathcart said in a release. “But it’s less about what the Bank of Canada has done so far. It’s about a pretty steep pace of continued tightening that markets expect to play out over the balance of the year, because that is already being factored into fixed mortgage rates.”

Despite the drop in demand reflected in CREA’s numbers, a shortage of supply across the country is keeping some upward pressures on prices.

A second set of figures released Monday, however, suggests some relief on the supply front may be on the way, as the pace of homebuilding began to pick up in many of the country’s markets.

Still cheaper than the electric furnace. I don't think he ever had it running in the 30+ years they were there, except for the blower to circulate the warmth from the woodstove.

Well, hopefully not too sharp a dump until mid-summer/early fall. I’d like to see it strong until school district buyers are done, then drop like a rock for fall “cottage sell off” season…

I paid $4,500 for propane last year at $0.72/L. This year that went up to as high as $0.89/L. I haven't bothered looking at totals yet. Sadly, no wood stove or fireplace. I intend on installing one (or a pellet stove) to help that. I also intend on swapping my air conditioner with a heat pump. It'll cost me more in electricity overall, but it'll drop propane use considerably. My house currently heats entirely on propane, with glycol running through my basement and garage slabs, and the air handler pushing warm air from the hydronics system. That's gotta stop. I love gas, but it's financially unsustainable.

I welcome a huge dump right now. Having to buy out the ex is very, very expensive right now. If i can stretch it out, great. But I don't know how much longer I can do it.

my wife gets all excited when prices go up OR down. It doesn't matter to me 'cause we're not buying OR selling. If it goes back up, out RE taxes will go up too so that's a bad thing.

Out here in the East most of our end of town is Hydro, except for some of the 'pre-60's ' homes. And Hydro hasn't jumped much yet, but our neighbors with Oil heat are sh-ng themselves. One just got a new tank for about $3K after I showed him my old oil-heat spreadsheet compared to the Heat-pump cost for the last 5 years - $2-300/month savings. Didn't want to spend $3-4K for a Heat pump. He's not too happy now, but I don't mention it to him.

Mine used to, until I pointed out that unless she has another place for us to live, every house in town could go to 10 million bucks and it wouldn't matter. We cant make any money off a sale because we would still have to by something else. I hope the price of the average home goes back to $200k. Then it wouldn't be economically viable to build more, and maybe the price of the damned building supplies would come back down some. 7 bucks for a stupid fence board is insane !!!

Drove my Father to the lumber store yesterday he bought three 8 foot 2x4's, with tax just under $35.00. It would cost 2 million bucks to build a fricken house.

This is ridiculous, it will be worth it if it gets rid of the Liberals though.
