Cherry Wood Rifle Stock?

Grew up on an orchard and had to split my share of cherrywood under the maul, but - How does it stain, how does the grain pop? I have a few choices on my next build, it is the same price as standard maple, but $200 below deluxe maple. What say ye?? Thinking browned iron throughout for metal and thought it may be a fit for a non contrasting dark rifle.........

Funny, I was driving by an old apple orchard today and had the same thought. There is a hardwood lumber mill near by and I keep meaning to drop in to check out their stock.

Not made of exotic hardwoods they don't. What I am looking for is someone with a stock replicator that can make me some ultra, uber fancy furniture for a couple of upcoming creations.

What’s the minimum thickness you can get by with? I might have some thicker cut planks that have been air drying for almost a decade now.
