    A couple of flashlight holsters

I have known about the Surefire V70 light holster for a long time but have never seen one in stock until I visited Prefair, an AMAZING store in Montreal…they had at least 10 on the shelves and more in the back.

Anyway, on to the holster itself…depending on the light, it can hold them bezel up and/or bezel down. There are metal spring clips inside so it holds the light quite tightly. The kydex is also very thick.

I tried it with my G2Z MaxVision and it fits bezel up.

I am sure I could carry it upside down (the belt loop comes with an adjustment piece) and the light wouldn’t fall out but I would probably pull my pants down with the force required to get it out!

In the hopes of finding something with a more rapid deployment, I did some research and discovered the Nextorch V6.

There were two things that appealed to me about it, 1) it can be rotated to different angles by simple clicks and 2) the tension can be adjusted by removing the elastics around the base. Note that there is also a V61 version that adds a locking mechanism for rotation and retention.

    Simple belt attachment…pretty tight though

The G2Z MV fits bezel up with the elastics installed

but they had to be removed for bezel down

Ultimately I found deployment too slow with this setup (defeating the purpose) so I put the elastics back on and will use it for a Nitecore light instead.

I should also point out that the Nextorch holster is less than half the price of the Surefire and it does feel flimsier (at least the kydex is much thinner). We will see how it holds up to regular use.

I keep my flashlight in my pants pocket. It's such a different shape from anything else in the pocket that it's quick to identify by touch.

I've tried a bunch of belt holsters but in the end I always end up with them in my pocket.

The exception is my 4 or 5 C cell Defiant (Home Depot) 600 lumen flashlight. I have a C cell ring flashlight holder on my duty belt. But this light is more for testing tires and melons...........

I do use these holders on my helmets, they help when you need handsfree and can't use a headlamp.

I had one of those 5 D cell maglights. The light output was pitiful but then again, they're not about illumination are they? I carried mine plus a 24" barteaux machete sharpened on both sides in Papua New Guinea. I was the only Canadian who would go out and check his drill at night or early AM. The crazy drunk and stoned locals were very impressed by my flashlight....................

I alway found it a little big for my hand size. I prefer C cell lights as I can close my hand around them completely.
