The instructor and I went to the airport this morning with the hope that the weather would hold. They got a little bit of snow out there last night and when the sun came up, it was just warm enough to start it melting. We were doing our ground briefing, the wind picked up from about 5km/h to gusting 40. the temperature dropped 7 degrees in 10 minutes, and the whole airport turned into a sheet of ice. High winds and greasy runways do not make for a happy time. We carried on with the ground briefing stuff so the next lesson I have booked will be pulling the aircraft out and just go. The temperature is supposed to drop well below club minimums so I cancelled tomorrow's lesson while I was there. I've got to start back to work on Wednesday, so fingers are crossed for good weather next weekend.

What's disgusting is that this is the 6th (and tomorrow will be the 7th) weather cancellations I've had in a row. 7 bookings over two weeks and zero good (or even fair) weather days. I just looked at the 7 day forecast and there's no end in sight for the cold. Staying in the -20s for the foreseeable future. Oh well.....there's nothing I can do about it.

Look at the positive side. You’ve got the costs down to less than a grand an hour, lol.

Right !!!?? LOL. From the beginning, I figured the actual "learn to fly and get licensed" part was going to run me somewhere between $10 and $15k for the flight school part. Factor that in at $15K / 45 hrs is still going to come out to $333 / hr. By the time I finish flight training, Trudeau will have it costing $300 for a hamburger, so I might as well spend my pesos now while they can still get me something.

I believe you've had sufficient time off to have a few real good tire fires and do your part to improve weather conditions for your new hobby. Tsk, tsk.

Weekly cancellation update. Yesterday was below min temp. Tomorrow the TAF (Terminal area forecast) is calling for less than 1 mile visibility in snow with 1200ft ceilings, so it's toast too. Tomorrow will be 9 weather cancellations in a row. So far, I've had 4 flights, and 15 cancellations. I remember when I did my initial club sign-up, somebody said the average cancellation rate was 40%. BAHAHAHAHA !!! They're going to have to up the numbers just on my account. I'm starting to think I should ask for a list of all students who are currently making a serious effort to put in the time to get licensed. Maybe we can start a f---ing knitting club or something !!!

Alright. By some miracle, we actually got flying today. 2.8 more hours in the log. Steep turns, spiral dive recovery, slow flight, side slips, circuits, crosswind landings and takeoffs (touch and goes). Landing 1 was pretty good. 2 and 3 were total f-ups on my part. #4 was ok. I've really got to get quicker on the rudder. If the old man's 150 was a sports car, the 172 is a truck. Heavy, and kind of sloppy to control at lower speeds by comparison. I'm not making any excuses. My 30 year gap in flying, my 30 year older brain (and reaction time) and sheer inexperience are all at play. The only thing that's going to make this better is practice practice practice. 6 weeks after sending my 2nd batch of medical stuff back to Transport Canada, and....crickets. Costs updated.
