I don't think they should allow real firearms on a movie set at all. Clearly actors are not responsible enough to handle firearms safely. As actors like to say "if it only saves one life"

You can get the tone of these videos that they want to crucify the armorour and excuse Baldwin. I get the feeling that they are leaving out the critical fact Baldwin was the producer and ultimately responsible for the safety of everyone on set. If the armorour was not doing her job properly Baldwins job (producer) was to replace her. If Baldwin undermined her authority as armorour then the whole thing belongs in his lap

Let the gong show begin. I would like to see two outcomes from the charges 1 Baldwin getting a lifetime ban on handling firearms 2 Baldwin getting jail time. I'm skeptical that either one will happen but good on them for charging Baldwin.

Alec Baldwin legal team has firearm enhancement in manslaughter charge downgraded

Prosecutors in New Mexico have now dropped firearm enhancement charges against Alec Baldwin following the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie Rust.

The move reduces possible prison time for the actor as the charges carried a mandatory five-year prison sentence.

Mr Baldwin, who now faces two involuntary manslaughter charges, still faces up to 18 months in prison.

Rust's director Joel Souza was also shot and wounded.

Heather Brewer, Santa Fe county district attorney spokesperson, said the prosecution dropped the firearm enhancement charge to "avoid any further litigious distractions by Mr Baldwin and his attorneys".

"The prosecution's priority is securing justice, not securing billable hours for big-city attorneys," Ms Brewer said.

According to CBS News, prosecutors also dropped the firearm enhancement charge for Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film's armorer, who is responsible for weapons on set.

Lawyers for Mr Baldwin, 64, and Ms Gutierrez-Reed had been arguing against the firearm enhancement charge, saying prosecutors were applying a version of the law passed after the October 2021 shooting accident.

Ms Hutchins, 42, died in hospital after she was shot in the chest by a prop gun fired by Mr Baldwin.

Previously Mr Baldwin's lawyer, Luke Nikas, said his client "had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun - or anywhere on the movie set".

"He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds."

If convicted, along with a prison sentence, Mr Baldwin and Ms Gutierrez-Reed could face a fine of $5,000.

Rust filming will resume with Baldwin in lead role

Earlier this month, the parents and sister of Ms Hutchins sued Mr Baldwin and the production company over Ms Hutchins' death.

Her husband agreed to settle his wrongful death lawsuit out of court - which alleged violations of industry standards - with Mr Baldwin last year.

Filming for the Western film will now resume in the spring with Mr Baldwin still as the lead actor.

During a recent interview on the "Voices of the West" podcast, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed said that "Rust" was only the second time she had worked as a lead armorer on a film set. She said her first experience was on the set of the film "The Old Way," which stars Nicolas Cage and recently wrapped shooting.

Gutierrez-Reed also told the podcast that she almost didn't take the job because she hadn't been sure if she was ready for it.

"It was a really badass way to start off a really long and cool career," she said on the podcast. "It was also my first time being head armorer as well. I almost didn't take the job because I wasn't sure if I was ready. But doing it, like, it went really smoothly."

Earlier this week, the online publication The Wrap published a report citing sources from the set of "The Old Way" who said Gutierrez-Reed exhibited poor gun safety on set.

Stu Brumbaugh, who worked as a key grip on "The Old Way," told The Wrap that Hannah Gutierrez-Reed's behavior caused the film's star Nicolas Cage to scream at her and storm off set after she fired a gun near the cast and crew for the second time in three days without warning.

"Make an announcement, you just blew my fucking eardrums out," Cage yelled before walking off the set, Brumbaugh told the publication.

Two separate sources told The Daily Beast that there had been "considerably less attention" given to gun safety under Gutierrez-Reed's leadership on the film's set.

"There were several concerns I brought to production's attention," one source told the publication. "I have been around firearms my entire life and noticed some things that were not OK even with loaded blank firearms."

The Daily Beast went on to recount a story from a source who said Gutierrez-Reed loaded a gun during production and handed it to a child actor without properly checking the weapon. Filming was stopped by crew members who intervened and demanded that Gutierrez-Reed had properly checked the firearm, the publication reported.

"She was reloading the gun on the ground, where there were pebbles and stuff. We didn't see her check it, we didn't know if something got in the barrel or not," the report said.

The head armorer of Rust caused actor Nicolas Cage to walk off set in a fury after she fired a gun—without warning, near cast and crew—twice in three days while they were shooting a Western over the summer, a crew member on that movie said. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who came under fire for her lack of experience after a prop gun on the set of Rust fatally discharged last week, made basic safety mistakes on the set of Cage’s The Old Way, according to two members of the crew.
