Hahaha, guess I wasn't specific. What's the age, caliber, overall length, maker.... that kind of stuff.

There is no makers name on the gun but it has all the ear marks of Durs Egg[sp]. It's a tap action four barrel flintlock that would have been great in a poker game but I suspect that more often than not you would have had a chain fire happening. Barrel length is 3.75 inches, overall length is 8 5/8 inch's. .44 is the size of the bore and it does shoot and has killed one hog. I'm only guessing as I didn't buy it new, 1780?.

Ok Loki, we will help out some....
This is one of Smellie's pistols.
    [IMG][/IMG]

This pistol came into Canada with the Dakota Sioux in 1876 following a little dispute at the little big horn. It came to us from a Sioux reservation near where we live.

    [IMG][/IMG]

This Remington 1858 cap and ball revolver converted between 1866 and 1868 and sold in 1873.(The Army sold them to the solders who had them.)

    [IMG][/IMG]

You can see how the gunsmith modified the gun.

The photos were taken in our workshop, excuse the mess.

Ahhh Grasshopper, (shakes head) but consistency is the sign of a stagnant mind.

The baby at the left side of Janice's last photo is an Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle Works .32 S&W Short breaktop, a little Owlhead.

Too bad it's a Prohib; it was my Mom's favourite.

It lives with the Big Guys because it's a Vet, too. It was the Town Police Pistol here, many years ago, was used in the arrest of an escaped killer, right in the coffee shop of the old Alexandra Hotel. Cst. Jim Boulton, gone these many years, was the arresting officer.

Many years later, when the Town was cleaning up its office, the gun was discovered. Somebody remembered what it was and it was disposed of to a local RCMP officer who was a collector. My Mom begged it from him because she thought it was pretty. It usually lives in the Crown Royal whiskey bag it arrived here in.

It is indeed sad that something such as this, a very real artifact from our history, should have to end up at Dofasco, being smelted down, because Toronto cannot bring itself to control its "innocent minority youths" and their dope-dealing, violent gangs.

This little thing still has not fired 100 rounds in its 100-odd years in town.

Maybe it's time to head for the range......
