Senators to move in on First Nations?

We're about to find out if Senators' future will likely be at LeBreton Flats

If you build it, they will come.

We’ll find out Thursday if the Ottawa Senators will get their own Field of Dreams to build a new arena at LeBreton Flats.

As reported by Postmedia Wednesday, the National Capital Commission’s board of directors will meet Thursday and the group is expected to announce an agreement in principle with the preferred bidder for a major events centre at LeBreton.
Oh, how hilarious it would be to see a hockey team made up largely of foreigners, an organization that carries the name of a group of people who represent the Crown, to make their new home on "on unceded Algonquin, Anishinabek territory".

I was under the impression that studies and surveys galore have been done on this, numerous times already. I thought the people of Ottawa had agreed that downtown is a stupid place to put an arena, and that a hospital would be better suited.

This is Ottawa trying to become Montreal and Toronto, without the infrastructure. They think the LRT is that infrastructure. They think the arena will attract people. They're idiots.

What's wrong with the Palladium, or whatever they're calling it now? Do they just want to move because they have too much money? They built out there because it's (or was) the middle of nowhere.

Nothing will F--k you up as much as the realization that there's no real reason the alphabet needs to be in order !!

You never know, they could end up with some cool fireworks between periods.

Ottawa Senators win bid for downtown arena at LeBreton Flats

The Ottawa Senators are the preferred bidder to build a major attraction at LeBreton Flats, clearing the way for an NHL arena on the land just west of downtown.

The National Capital Commission has reached a memorandum of understanding with a consortium led by the Senators to build an arena surrounded by mixed-use development on the six-acre parcel of land.

The NCC made the announcement at its board meeting Thursday morning. The goal is to sign a lease agreement for the site by the fall of 2023.

The six-acre parcel of land is on Albert Street between City Centre Avenue and Preston Street, between two LRT stations. In December, the NCC launched a request for expressions of interest for the land, as well as another smaller site farther north, seeking "bold and transformational" ideas.

Six acres hardly sounds large enough for all that. I guess any parking will be offsite.
The lessons learned from Maple Leaf Gardens and Le Forum led to relocation near transit hubs.
Ottawa's plan sounds like putting A/C Place (or Scotia-whats-its-name) out by the Long Branch loop.
This, after getting zoning for 100 acres and building a highway interchange.
Watch as the price of admission to a Sens game moves into the gold-plated strata of the Leafs.

Parking? Ottawa wants to ban cars downtown and force people to take public transit and bicycles.

The only parking there will be is for the owners, the media, the local players, and the buses shuttling the visiting players.
