Moose Limited Entry Hunt in Beautiful British Columbia

I won the lottery. I can hunt for a bull moose out my back door. It is the first draw of a group of 12 in 5 years. I know almost 30 people who applied for this draw and were unsuccessful. First in 11 years for me in 4 applications a year and all unsuccessful. I did the math and it is expensive to hunt. Unless the bear wanders into your yard the first day of spring bear season. I will sharpen the butchering knives anyway.

Can you wander around, and see if you can figure out where they eat, where they drink, where they sleep?
Then the day of the 'hunt' you know where to sit and wait.

    Telltale Sign
Along with scats and tracks, look for wide, well-traveled trails along the edges of rivers and lakes or at the borders between heavy timber and forest openings. Also browsed willow and other shrubs, some gnawed down to stubs as thick as a human finger. Moose create large circular wallows in muddy areas that are heavily tracked and reek of urine. Bulls also thrash trees and shrubs with their antlers, leaving behind impressive amounts of destruction.

I already know where they hangout. If a grizzly or cougar doesn't get to them first. Or a guide outfitter. The big guys stay around the same swamp for years and only leave if a bigger guy comes along. Just need to refresh my cow calling abilities.
A 4" to 5" tree that a big bull moose removes his velvet on is usually dead the next spring. I'll see if I can find some pictures.
Then you find a tree with deep scratches on it 12' up that were made by a grizzly.

Day 2 of the hunt and I got my moose. Butchering the last 3 quarters today due to heat. First got butchered last night. I'll post a bit more when I'm not so busy. Happy, happy, happy.

    Awesome!
Share pics, many of us will never have the opportunity for a hunt like that.

Well done sir. How thick a rope did you use to tie it up to that tree before season started ?

I have been blessed with this moose. If you only knew the shit I have dealt with to get the moose. Think drunks on atv's trying to scare the moose away so I didn't get one. One for the memory books.
