Now that looks like a hunting trip I could do. I never got to do that kind of thing and never got to even taste moose meat even.

Over in ns for the week. Spooked one. Heard a billion shots last night. Not holding my breath for success this trip.

I did get a nice little 4/5pt buck on my last day, not much of a story, road hunting - got him in a field after asking permission from the owners.
The stand I was working all week was a bust.

That's leagues better than my hunt week. 21C in November. 2 local ATV clubs all over Crown land. And hme with the kiddo due to a school strike. On the bright side, I found 6 pounds of ground in the freezer from 2 years ago.

Was out on Saturday, bumped a few does & fawns stalking around in the morning. Hung a stand in a promising spot, then froze my arse off in gale force winds without seeing a thing in the evening.

There were still 23 head of cattle on the place in the AM, they were rounded up and trucked back to the BIL’s place for winter, should see more next weekend.

Decided on a whim to test fire the muzzleloader again, and thank god I did. Two feet left and high at 100 yards. What the hell? Wasted a bunch of lead and powder dialling that back in. First time I’ve ever had an issue with that setup.

Got ‘er done about quarter to ten this morning.

Not seeing a ton of action out there. Seems like the deer are almost nocturnal already. Saw one yearling doe this morning about 6:30, kept me from climbing into my stand until well after 7:00 by standing in the 50x200 yard clearing it’s in this year. Didn’t see anything but a coyote after that. Grunt calls every ten or fifteen minutes starting around 8:30, and this guy finally meandered out and walked to within 20 yards of the base of my tree.

I thought I missed. He tossed his head at the shot and just kept walking, no change in pace. Stopped about 20 yards over my left shoulder and was looking around. Started teetering right around the time I rammed another 250gr pill down the barrel, then capsized. Then back to the farmyard to clean and skin him, and the three pigs that were on the chopping block for this weekend. I’m fricken beat….

Deer dynamics seem way off. Not sure if it’s because it’s still so wet out there and some of the typical fall routes are impassible, or if it’s a feed issue. 60 acres on the farm are fallow, and some of the adjacent properties didn’t get a crop in this year either. Combine that with the cattle being left out there 3 weeks later than normal and chewing the place up pretty good. It feels odd compared to the last few years though. Numbers seem alright judging by what I’ve seen all summer and the amount of tracks in the snow.
