That's a lot of coins for a .22lr, but it looks like a good time, and you can shoot a lot of rounds for minimal dollars.
Or you could shoot a lot of 308 or 6.5cm with a $2k rifle and $8k of ammo.

I agree and would rather use a larger caliber as well, that being said, doing a rudimentary quick search on a couple of firearm sites I came up with an average cost for .308 mid grade ammo (not the cheapest and no where near the most expensive) being around $75/20 .
That means $8000,00 worth of ammo is about 2133 shots.
That's a good amount of fun, but won't last some folks a year.
Well, I make upper-mid tier ammo at home for a lot less than that :P

For $10k I'd want to push the 10kJ envelope. how much to set aside for replacement barrels? 150 gr going nearly 5000 fps sounds awesome

Long distance .22LR target shooting presents a whole host of challenges and is a heck of a lot of fun. It also seems to be extra popular right now. It's a rabbit hole it's easy to go down, maybe not to the tune of US$10K but right now I'm trying to figure out what barrel tuner I can use to add to the fun.
