Canadian dairy farmer says he’s forced to dump 30,000 litres of milk

    Feb 1 2023, 5 minutes
Ontario dairy farmer Jerry Huigen posted this viral video documenting how he is forced to dump 30,000 litres of milk due to supply management rules because he produced more than his quota.

Says "Only in Canada" do we dump milk.
Also, he can't expand, and fuel prices are up -- but his pay is fixed.

Dumping milk from over quota isn’t new. It’s been going on since quota existed in Canada.

    Yes.
Indeed it was one of the things Max Bernier was trying to fight. Now of course he has no power to do anything about it, and never will.

One of the reasons my buddy's family sold their dairy was because there was some kind of penalty they kept get charged because there was too much cream on top of their milk or some silliness like that. When it comes to Canada, we waste a CRAP TON of perfectly good food on a daily basis, and it isn't the farmers who are causing the waste.

It's why heavy whipping cream here sells for as much as $8 per litre depending on the brand and store.

I've been going through at least 2 liters a week but I can see me dropping it altogether on the next price increase.

I don't need it I just really like it.

Dairy farmers AKA the Milk Mafia have nothing to complain about.

I know the whole idea was tied to food security and preserving the family farm, but its ended up as a government controlled price fixing agribusiness cartel.

Milk that would be dumped should be exported instead.

How else are they going to keep the price so high and the demand up. What people are expecting is that the market sets the price like it does for most other items or goods in society.
