2023 gardening thread

Tomatoes, Brussels sprouts, cucumbers, and a few hundred bedding plants are up.
Today the bobcat was put to use shoveling the 4’ drifts out from around the greenhouse. Hopefully by tomorrow evening the block of ice holding the door shut has softened enough I can get inside. I need more seed trays and they’re all stranded inside it.

It sure does, I used up the last of it on the 75yd walk between the house and the shop. I’m to the age of breaking a hip falling on my ass!
The sun will take care of it tomorrow I’m sure.

Ive only got 2 possibilities for south'ish' facing windows and I ran out of room for my seedlings. I slapped together a couple of 2x4 frames to sit in there. If you cant go out, then you've got to go up.

I'm considering putting 2 of these along my chainlink fence. Then the beans or whatever can crawl up the fence and I can have a row or two of other stuff in front of that. They're 2 feet high and are available in 4x8, 3x8, 3x6 (I'd need 3 of the 3x6 ones). They're supposedly good for 20 years. They're double the price of doing beds in untreated wood, but they'll probably last 3 or 4 times as long with zero maintenance. I'd rather just feel the pain once and be done with it. Has anyone ever used these before ? How did it work out ?

Last fall I hauled a potted petunia into the shop, let it die back, then harvested the seed pods. A month ago I sprinkled the seeds on top of the soil watered and covered them.....I hope the wife really likes petunias

Go back and read my post #11 - I bought the 12" by 36" by 72" one for $89.00 They have flat corners so an imaginative fella like yourself could stack two together fairly easily if you wanted to. And they're painted green so they won't look too industrial.

The 6x3 is on for $161 right now, so it's actually cheaper if I buy them off Amazon than Princess if I want 2ft height. Mrs BSD put the nix on my log bed idea by the way, so we won't need to go out after a bunch of those.

Two of the three 6'x3'x2' body composters......errrrr....I mean, raised garden beds, are together. Just taking a break before putting the last one together. They are probably stiff enough that they don't need a center support to keep the sides from bowing out, but Im going to run a 3' piece of threaded rod through them anyway just for good measure.
