Nice Ross civilian military marksmanship/target rifle.

Just picked this up recently, a barely used 1905 Ross target rifle. Has a 28" barrel that mic's at .309".

Should be a very decent shooter with the fine adjustable rear aperture sight it comes with.

That is a Mark II*** Service rifle. The give-away is the handguard notched into the forend. A civilian/military target rifle would be a Mark II**, and would have a longer, heavier contour barrel.
Is there a serial number stamped on the left side of the breech of the barrel with very small stamps? If so the rifle went through the shop where civilian rifles were set up.
These 1905 rifles tended to have tighter barrels, which contribute to their shooting performance. Should be an excellent shooter.

    Nice wood.
Don't know much about them but looks like it would worth more as they age.

Yes, the serial number is stamped in very small digits on the left side of the breech. And the barrel mic's right at .309" so I should be able to reload with .30 cal bullets!

I was told it came from the family of a now long deceased target shooter. I also got a very nice and perfect condition 3 band snider at the same time, I will post some pictures of that one too. It is in even better shape than this ross and also is a civilian marksmanship rifle made by Thomas Turner of Birmingham that later was taken into military service and has regimental stamps on the buttplate. It's bore is as new with perfect Thomas Turner patented progressive rifling.
