Muskox is like roast beef in my opinion as it's very lean meat. Usually fry it up with onions and spices or BBQ the tenderloin, slow roast in a cooker is always great too! The stones piled up are called Inukshuk and there are many different types of them ... some point in a direction, some were used to trap caribou into a certain area(multiple inukshuks), some for where meat is cached ... google Inukshuk or Inuksuit it'll explain them all. BSmithden the land is riddled with them and they usually have purpose. I will definately pm before coming back to Edmonton. Glad you folks like the pics even though taken with a crappy cellphone. If the weekend weather changes for the better I'm headed out again and hopefully another muskox, hopefully wolves or wolverine and some tuktu. Cheers GOC,

Hey JustBen, I made up some burgs last nite and BBQed them up ... it was awesome!

    - muskox ground meat mixed with pork fat(75/25 or so)
    - diced a whole onion
    - crushed crackers
    - egg
    - superburger spice
    - chopped banana peppers
    - shredded cheddar

Topped off with whatever condiments my friends wanted ... it turned out great for 1st BBQ of the season.

P.S. I went out to the ice flowedge yesterday afternoon to shoot some geese but only got 1 but saw quite a few flying north and south ... lil early still for them as there's no real open water due to the the late winter thaw and the ton of snow we got last week as she dropped 90plus cm of snow on us ... Mother Natures not done with us for winter yet. HAHA.

My 1st shot off of the day and the only shot off of the day ... HAHA!

Well I just took a day off work tomorrow so I can have another long weekend and go hunting outland on my skidoo ... I think I may shoot 1 or 2 more muskox. I'm hoping to see some wolve and wolverine tracks as well as the area we're headed to usually has a healthy bunch of those buggers. HAHA. Hope you all havea great weekend and any hunting you do! Cheers GOC,

A healthy bunch of wolverines? Yikes! Nasty buggers. Very curious about musk-ox meat now...I always assumed it was, well, musk-y!

Good on you for shotgunning that attitude with feathers in post #16 too, go get some more.

I never knew the Inukshuiit were used as a caribou trap...although now I have an image of sneaky Inuit perched behind giant ones waiting to push them over on animals...

    Good luck on your hunt!
