I've had a 10-22 since the early 70's and it is still original and not for sale. Works with any ammo and any size mag i have up to the 30 roundsers i bought years ago, even a 100 round mag my brother in law had, which was a pain to load. The last Rem. semi i had was a 522 which i should have never sold, some 597's seem to work well from what friends tell me some do not kind of like some of the new 10-22's. I think it is related to poored quality control and the puch to make more products faster. My 25 round mags are Ram Line, can't find the others but i suspect the boys have "borrowed" them.

Got a new 597 HB, runs perfect with CCI Mini Mag with OEM 10 rounder magazine. 30-rounder is hit and miss. Picky on ammo, but accurate. Trigger is on the heavy side, but workable. Aftermarket parts is the only winning advantage by Ruger 10/22, if you can find them. Both needs work to shoot better.

I've had a few 10/22's and two 597's. The first was a solid performer, albeit a cheap build quality. The second was junk. Of the 10/22's I've owned, ALL were at least as good as the first 597, a couple a bit less accurate, but not a lot.
I don't own a 597 now, haven't for a number of years. I don't think I've been without at least one 10/22 in the last 25 years though.

I've had 3 10/22's and will be buying another...regular wood/blued this time. Aftermarket bolt buffer and a couple steel lips and should be good to go.
Looked at the 597s quite a few times but for a few $$$ more I'll go with an iron I know will work like I expect.

    so ya...another Ruger vote...

10/22. i handled the 597 and couldn't let go of it fast enough. i plan to buy at least one more 10/22.
I'd rather make a difference than a dollar.
