    10/22 vs 597

Probably been done to death already but let's do it again.

Which one's better and why? Reliability and accuracy?

10/22 obviously wins for aftermarket parts.

597 is less expensive and easier to find.

    10/22 has the rotary mag.

597 holds the bolt open after the last round.

    Which one do you prefer?

    (10/22 wins hands down in 3, 2, ..... )
Don't blame me, I didn't vote for 'em.

Never owned a 597, I like the availability of them especially in .22mag. Non of my 10/22's ever let me down besides cheap aftermarket mags. IMO nothing gets better then a HB 10/22 except of course a CZ rifle

+1 for the 597, I love mine. I have the 16.5" heavy barrel model and it fits me perfectly, I threw a TRS-25 on it and haven't had any complaints yet. Can't really give a big testament to the accuracy of it, I've never put groups on paper yet, normally just play around with cans and skeet and whatnot. It hits a pop can at 75m just fine though. The 30 rnd mags are iffy at first, but after I broke mine in a bit they work great. I find the mag release a lot more natural than the 10/22 too. Unless you want to modify it I wouldn't say one is particularly better than the other, they're both good guns as far as I'm concerned, I just like the 597 better.

10/22 works for me. Folder setup and tech sights, no point in changing.

    Got both
597 out of the box way more accurate but cheap. With 10 round stock mags plenty reliable but the 30 rounders stink.
10/22 do not own the Ruger 10/22 but a tricked out version with no Ruger parts. Pretty good accuracy but with all these high end parts I was at least expecting the same as the 597. Way more expensive and funnier to trick out do to the ample supply of aftermarket stuff to buy. But the real kick is the 30 rounders on these rifle platform too don't work that great only the 10 rounder stock ones are reliable but I won't use them.

The 30 rounders for the 10/22 suck, but the 25 rounders (only steel lips) are great, as good as the factory 10 rounders in my experience. I have put probably over 10,000 rounds through my 10/22 in the last 4 years and it still works as good as the day I bought it.

+1 for the steel lip 10/22 mags. Never had an issue with them. Easily as reliable as the factory 10-rounders. 10/22 gets my vote, FWIW.
    I like guns.
